Point Defiance is a sprawling park north of Tacoma, WA. It’s got beaches, a zoo, an aquarium, gardens…
And miles and miles of trails.
Alexis, Kay, and I went out to Owen Beach, and then walked away down the promenade to put some distance between us and the families out enjoying a rare warm, dry day during a Washington winter. We chit chatted and hung out by the edge of the Sound. We climbed over fallen logs, explored the area. Alexis and Kay giggled the entire time.
They complement each other so well, these two. And their smiles when they look at each other… Warms your cockles. They met online, but as it turns out, they worked in the same store at the time! They had been on different shifts, so they never even crossed each other’s path. Alexis eventually switched to the morning shift, and their coworkers immediately began conspiring to set them up. Four months after getting together, they were engaged.
What better way to celebrate and enjoy it than with a Point Defiance engagement session?
After the beach, we hiked up to a forested area and frolicked (yes, frolicked) around a meadow area, running up and down, circling the trees on the border, spinning. We wandered out down a trail along the top of the bluff and looked out over the water. We had been gifted with an incredibly clear day; we could see everything from up there. They snuggled amongst the trees.
On the way back, Alexis and Kay twirled together in the road, then held each other close for one last cozy moment. All they wanted out of this Point Defiance engagement session was to enjoy their date day. …Mondays are their date day. It’s when their days off overlap. Preeeetty good date idea. Just sayin’.
As we walked, they told me about all of their wedding plans, which I know will tickle several of you. They have an incredible Beauty-and-the-Beast-themed wedding planned! And not the Disneyland version that would charm a four-year-old. An elegant, inspired version. Alexis is going to be wearing a gold dress, Kay has a blue suit, and the wedding party is going to be dressed in red, like the rose. If you’ve met these two for even a moment, you’ll recognize how very them this wedding day vision is.
And that’s what your wedding day should be, isn’t it? Very you. When you tell someone else about it, whether or not they’d do that for their own wedding, they’ll recognize how perfect for you and your partner it is. I’m no Disney princess, but Alexis freaking is. I love that they’re getting married in a style all their own, not inside all the lines that other people have drawn.
Want to plan your own outside-the-lines wedding day…?
